Upward Sports

Upward is a uniquely designed total sports experience that adapts and expands as players grow in their personal athletic journeys. The Upward program develops total athletes mentally, athletically, spiritually and socially - producing players who excel both on and off the field.

Through Upwards we pride ourselves on creating a semi-competitive environment for play that is developmentally appropriate, challenging and conducive to learning. Through the program, coaches teach the skills and concepts of the game, but most importantly, promote the discovery of Jesus. Our Bible curriculum includes several memory verses per season that teach us important Biblical virtues.

Coming Spring 2021 | Mar. 22 – May 29

Upward Basketball League: (Kindergarten – 6th grade) offers opportunity for character-building, player development, and the formation of deep relationships between teammates and coaches. Our desire is for players to develop a love for basketball with a healthy competitive spirit, and discover skills necessary to succeed both on and off the court. The game format and rules are designed to teach the game at an age specific level that grows with each young athlete.

Teams are coed and split into developmentally appropriate age groupings. Teams are made as equally as possible based on ages, accommodations, and our league evaluations. We are very intentional about this process, we want every child to be appropriately challenged, feel as if they are in a safe place to learn and grow, and be given the opportunity to be as successful as possible.

Teams are coached by volunteer parents, supported and guided by Recreation Ministry staff. If you are interested in volunteering to coach your child’s team, please email Meredith Covell at MCovell@twumc.org.

Upward Cheer: (4 years old - 6th grade) is a great place for children to focus on learning cheer skills and the foundations needed for the next level of cheerleading. Teams are coached by volunteer parents, supported and guided by Recreation Ministry staff.

All Pre-K cheer teams will be a 30/30 format with 30 minutes of practice on Saturday mornings, followed by a halftime performance and 30 minutes of cheering for one of our basketball teams.

Kindergarten - 6th grade teams will have a team practice during the week and cheer for one of our upward basketball games on Saturday morning.
