Missions Ministry of The Woodlands UMC

Year Around:

  • Prison Ministry
    • Needed: Volunteers to mentor prisoners and ex-offenders
    • Needed: Volunteers to serve on Kairos weekends in the prisons
    • Needed: Volunteers to serve in the Prison Entrepreneurship program
    • Needed: Bikers to serve with the Christian Motorcycle Association
    • Needed: Volunteers to serve with the Epiphany weekend ministries to incarcerated youth
  • Oak Island – Hurricane Relief
    • Needed: Volunteers to assist families who were affected by Hurricane Ike
  • The Blood Drive
    • Needed: Volunteers to help and coordinate and donors.
  • Craft Circle
    • Needed: Ladies to serve all year and volunteers for the Gala
  • Faith Builders
    • Needed: Individuals to work on the current project – usually a Saturday work team
  • Third Sunday Food Drives
    • Needed: Volunteers to collect bags of food during the worship services on the third Sunday of each month and distribute them to the food banks in South Montgomery County
  • Habitat for Humanity
    • Needed: Volunteers to build a house for a needy family
    • Needed: Re-Store –Volunteers are needed on Saturdays to unload trucks, arrange the furniture for display, etc.
    • Needed: Home Repair for Seniors – Volunteers to make repairs on the homes of needy families, especially senior citizens
  • Family Promise
    • Needed: Volunteers to assist while residents are at our church
    • Needed: Volunteers to work in the Family Promise ministry in Conroe
  • Society of St. Stephen
    • Needed: Volunteers to assist in helping those in need in South Montgomery County
    • Needed: Volunteers to receive information from our church voicemail from those in need and to e-mail that information to the SOSS outreach team
  • Pregnancy Assistance Center
    • Needed: Volunteers to serve individuals and families through the crisis of unexpected pregnancy
  • Elizabeth’s Place
    • Needed: Volunteers to assist and minister to teenaged mothers
  • Human Trafficking
    • Needed: Volunteers to assist in the House of Hope
    • Needed: Volunteers to offer the love of Christ to those being held and exploited

Seasonal Ministries:

  • Short Term Mission Trips
    • Needed: Volunteers to go and serve those in need in various countries
  • U. M. Army
    • Needed: Youth and adults working together to repair homes and build wheel chair ramps at the homes of individuals living in poverty in Texas
  • Back to School Project
    • Needed: Volunteers to shop for school clothing for needy children
  • September Serve
    • Needed: Every church member in service within the month
  • Christmas Miracles
    • Needed: Christmas gifts purchased for low income families
    • Needed: Food donations for Christmas dinners
  • Angel Tree
    • Needed: Christmas gifts purchased for the children of individuals who are incarcerated

Organizations Outside of the Church

  • Interfaith of The Woodlands
    • Hand Me Up Shop
      • Needed: Clothing donations for the needy
      • Needed: Volunteers needed every week to sort clothing
    • Assistance for Seniors
      • Needed: Drivers are to take senior citizens to doctor’s appointments, to the pharmacy, for groceries, etc.
    • In October, Interfaith sponsors “The Senior Games”
      • Needed: Volunteers to assist hundreds of seniors who come to participate in games and activities
  • Montgomery County Food Bank in Conroe
    • Needed: Volunteers to help sort donated food – They are needed any day, Monday thru Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • The Community Clinic
    • Needed: Volunteers to assist with patient scheduling, assist with patient intake, to fill out paperwork, etc. The clinic serves the poor and underinsured
  • Memorial Hermann Hospital
    • Needed: Volunteers to assist patients and their families. Opportunities include providing information, transporting patients from one location to another, assisting clerical staff, etc.
  • St. Luke’s Medical Center
    • Needed: Volunteers for similar tasks at St. Lukes
  • Pregnancy Assistance Center
    • Volunteers for office assistance, to sort clothing and other donations, and to become trained counselors to assist the young women who come for advice and assistance.
  • Nursing Home/Assisted Living Ministry
    • Needed: Volunteers to visit those living in nursing homes and assisted living facilities who do not have family near. Homes include: Silverado Senior Living Center; Eden Brook of the Woodlands; Regent Care Center; The Forum; Montgomery County Friendship Center
  • Special Needs Children Ministry
    • United Cerebral Palsy’s Family Day Out
      • Needed: Volunteers to assist in activities for children with Cerebral Palsy and their siblings
    • Bridgewood Farms
      • Needed: Volunteers to assist at their two thrift stores in Oak Ridge and Conroe
  • At Risk Children’s Ministry
    • Gospel Lakes Ranch
      • Needed: Volunteers to assist with fun and activities for underprivileged children
    • Diamond Star Youth Initiative
      • Needed: Assistance with activities for at-risk teenage girls and their families
    • Montgomery County Youth Services
      • Needed: Volunteers to provided services for youth who are struggling with issues in life
  • United Methodist Churches – Inner-City Houston
    • Crestmont Park UMC
    • Grace UMC
    • Disciples UMC

    • St. John’s UMC
      • Needed: Volunteer teams to do repairs, painting, etc. to assist these churches with low income members
  • Big Brothers/Big Sisters
    • Needed: Mentors for boys without fathers and girls without mothers
  • Literacy Volunteers of America
    • Needed: Volunteers to help adults improve their reading skills
    • Needed: Individuals to teach English as a second language
  • Meals on Wheels
    • Needed: Volunteers to deliver meals to the elderly through the Montgomery County Friendship Center
  • Salvation Army Soup Kitchen
    • Needed: Volunteers to prepare and serve meals to the homeless in Conroe
  • Tamina Community Center
    • Needed: Volunteers to assist in the children’s ministry, tutoring, computer training, etc.
  • Operation Interdependence Military Ministry
    • Needed: Volunteers to send care packages and notes of encouragement to soldiers serving overseas
