Camera Club

View our member photo albums to see the photos our members are taking on our PictureTrail gallery.

Our purpose is to bring together people interested in exploring the wonder of God’s creation through the lens of a camera. Members of all ages encourage one another and share their efforts to record nature, travels, people and memories. Anyone is welcome to join this club. We are here to teach one another through enjoyable activities and meetings, to make new friendships through a common interest, to support The Woodlands United Methodist Church through our photography, and to glorify God through it all.

Meetings

We meet the first Monday of each month, excluding holidays, at 7:00 p.m. in Jones Library (southwest corner of the church - see map). The meeting starts promptly at 7:15 p.m.

Our meetings last for one and a half hours. We share camera tips, learn new techniques, exchange ideas, and enjoy gaining insight from others’ experiences. Every month brings a new program.

Club Dues

There are opportunities and programs that require funds from time to time. Membership dues of $15 per person or $20 per family per year are a voluntary (non-tax-deductable) gift toward the operations of the Camera Club, and enable us to expand our programs. Membership is not required to attend monthly meetings nor to have a name tag, however, all workshops and field trips require membership to attend.

Special Interest Groups

Digital SLR (Single Lens Reflex) Camera SIG

Due to their huge diversity, we do not address specific cameras in our monthly Monday night meetings, so we get together as D-SLR owners (Nikon, Canon, etc.) in the DSLR Special Interest Group to figure out how to make our cameras work best.

This group meets at 2:00 p.m. on the fourth Sunday of every month in the Room B210, on the second floor in the middle of the church. Everyone is welcome!

Photoshop Elements SIG

Taking photos with a digital camera is just the beginning. The next step is getting them out of the camera and processing them in some way for printing or posting on the internet. The "standard" for digital processing programs is Adobe Photoshop, with Photoshop Elements the easiest and least expensive tool to start with. This SIG includes workshops on beginner and basic operations in Photoshop Elements as well as sharing of projects and techniques learned by fellow participants. Users of Photoshop CS and Lightroom are invited to participate, but all activities are conducted using Photoshop Elements.

This group meets the third Monday of each month in Room B210 (upstairs) at 7:00 p.m. If you have a laptop with Photoshop Elements installed you are encouraged to bring it, along with any photos and projects.

Share and Learn

Take some photos and share them with other members at the next meeting. We all want to know each other better and learn from all our experiences. Each month you can share up to four (4) photos. E-mail your photos to cameraclub@twumc.org by the end of the month! We cannot guarantee that photos received less than four (4) days before the monthly meeting will be included.

If you need help with this, call Jean and Mike Drummond (281.367.7641) or Pete Poulsen (281.292.1568). Remember—we have a mailbox in the resource room located beside the church receptionist if you need to drop off a CD or photo.

Always be sure you receive a response from one of us after you e-mail photos to be sure we received them.
